Climate Change Politics Trump Real Data: Anything Goes

Los Angeles, California (PRWEB) May 21, 2013

Western Washington University is the latest educational institution to attack scientists who dared to speak up about empirical data, shedding light on the fact that global warming has never been a danger to humanity or the planet. Dr. Don Easterbrook, a professor emeritus of geology with 50 years of expertise and research in climate change, has become the target of his own WWU colleagues. Kim Greenhouse of the It’s Rainmaking Time!® radio show explores the politics of climate change with guests Dr. Don Easterbrook and Dr. Gordon Fulks in “Data, Dogma, and Discovery” (released May 6, 2013).

On March 26th, 2013, Dr. Easterbrook — who has published 180 peer-reviewed papers — testified¹ before the Washington State Senate Energy, Environment and Telecommunications Committee about his findings on human-caused global climate change. In his two-hour presentation, Dr. Easterbrook showed that empirical evidence does not support catastrophic climate predictions. He also noted the differences between empirical data and computer modeling technology.

On March 31st, the thirteen members of WWU’s Geology Department published a letter² in the Bellingham Herald, calling Dr. Easterbrook’s testimony “scientifically invalid” in light of “the overwhelming preponderance of evidence” recognized by a “vast consensus of the science community”. The authors also wrongly asserted that Dr. Easterbrook’s ideas have not been peer-reviewed, and accused him of participating in a “decades-long conspiracy” to “falsify climate data and prevent publication of opposing research”. Incidentally, the letter offers no evidence supporting these claims.

According to Dr. Don Easterbrook’s April 14 rebuttal³ in the Herald, “Not a single one of the 13 Western Washington University authors has ever published a single paper on global climate change and none have any expertise whatsoever in climate issues.”

The attack continued on May 8th when John T. Hardy, professor emeritus at WWU’s Huxley College of Environmental Studies, published a letter in the Herald. Dr. Hardy dismissed⁴ Dr. Easterbrook’s testimony as “selective half-truths” that support the notion that humans are not significantly impacting Earth’s climate. Instead of providing evidence for his assertions, Dr. Hardy directed readers to NASA’s global climate change website.

It’s Rainmaking Time!® feels that it is troubling that Western Washington University’s first response to factual dissent by someone with 50 years of climate expertise was to kill the reputation of the messenger. What is even more troubling is that this is not an isolated incident. Tune in to It’s Rainmaking Time!® for a sobering look at climate change and explore the distinction between the political dogma and the actual data.
